Production and uses A pellet of plutonium-238, glowing from its own heat, used for radioisotope thermoelectric generators. ![]() Plutonium-244 has been found in interstellar space and is has the second longest half-life of any non-primordial radioisotope. It is not significantly produced in nuclear reactors because 243Pu has a short half-life, but some is produced in nuclear explosions.
